curriculum vitae

Writing one’s autobiography is a bit pretentious, especially for one who has seen but a bare quarter-century. Still, the bio page and accompanying pedantic title of curriculum vitae demands that an effort be made.

“I am Tyler.”

Perhaps there shall come a day when such a statement shall be self-defining. After I take over the world, these sorts of introductions will be unnecessary. I have already attempted such an introduction; during my freshman year at Baylor, I walked into a random dormroom and declared the aforementioned statement while glaring. Sadly, it did not strike fear into their hearts.

As part of the normal American greeting, most people ask some form of query regarding one’s occupation: “what do you do?” Beyond the immediate judgment that takes place (doctors and garbage-men are rarely treated equally after such questioning), I feel that a more appropriate question is simple: “who are you?”

“I am Tyler.”

Raised conservatively, always striving for perfection. Such is the sum of my adolescence.

Perfection achieved, paradise lost. Such is the sum of my post-adolescence.

The disenchantment of the bourgeois. Such is the state of my currency.

My life has been a quest for knowledge. Sometimes a fruitless quest, but a quest nonetheless. Where has it led me? Self-discovery. Self-realization. A knowledge of my own limitations.

The author of this article, Tyler Willis, grew up in Abilene, Tx and graduated valedictorian from Cooper HS. He attended Baylor University where he was active in numerous honor societies and his fraternity. After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in religion, classics, and history, he spent some time in seminary and in graduate school. After all this education, he came to realize that the academic path was not meant for him. He is currently engaged in finding his path.
