For the record, I played Growlanser Generations through the entire thing.

According to this New York Daily article, there is hope for nerds like me. Of course, this might be somewhat skewed since the writer thinks that Tiger Woods is a geek… yeah. But she seems to see geeks as good lovers… let’s hope there are more like her out there.

Sword of Mana. The name itself seems almost oxymoronic as most
RPGers would consider mana and swords to be two completely different ideas in
separate spheres of influence. Rarely does one see a mage form a sword out of
mana and start hacking away. The idea seems somewhat silly and unfortunately
the game does not get much better than its title.

Most RPGs claim to be epic. Most RPGs simply follow a hero and his/her half
dozen tag-a-longs as they single-handedly free the world, defeat the evil sorcerer,
etc. Few RPGs actually allow for hundreds of playable characters, epic battles
with vast armies, or one-on-one duels to the death. Suikoden does all this and
more.
The Bard’s Tale

The best introduction for The Bard’s Tale game comes straight from the introduction
portion of the game manual: "[The Bard’s] tenure as a barrel maker came
to an abrupt end when his barrel mentor Henry, the proprietor of The Barrel
Barn, ran him out of town for producing barrels that shattered with a mere whack
of a sword. ‘A key won’t even be safe in these things!’ Henry screamed…"
Not exactly your typical RPG character history, but then again The Bard’s Tale
is not your typical RPG.
